When PNL activities began in her village, Paramshila heard about the meetings through her neighbors. Initially, she was afraid to attend because she had never been part of a group before. After attending 2–3 meetings with her neighbor, she gradually understood the importance of the group and began participating. Even though her husband beat her for going to the group, she did not quit. She stayed strong and faced the challenges.
After 2–3 months, Paramshila officially joined the Danfe Self Help Group (SHG). She started saving NPR 20 per month, which later increased to NPR 50 and then NPR 100 per month. Through the project, she received training on hygiene, informal education, group development, and good governance. Her monthly savings have now increased to NPR 200. She has taken loans for buffalo keeping and vegetable farming, and once took a loan when her son went abroad for work. The earned money use to pay for her grandson’s school fees, invest in agriculture, and saving in SHG.
Paramshila has gained knowledge about group participation and now confidently talks with others in her village. She has learned to write her name and attends group meetings regularly to solve problems and learn new skills. She teaches her grandson and daughter in-law about hand washing and practices good hygiene. She understands waste management and separates plastic and kitchen garbage for proper disposal. Paramshila is now able to go alone wherever she needs to go. Her family no longer quarrels, and they have built good relations with neighbors. Her husband supports her and even reminds her of meeting dates. Her life changes are attributed to her participation in the SHG and support from the PNL project.
