History
PNL was established in AD 1999 with the initiations of local church leaders who were very keen to serve people with disabilities. From the very beginning of its establishment, the organisation was working with approach of Community Based Rehabilitation in close teamwork with local communities and organisations. Subsequently in AD 2005, PNL started treatment and disability care services to people affected by leprosy in the most leprosy-prevalent districts of Rupandehi, Nawalparasi and Kapilvastu.
The organisational activities were mainly based on annual plan which was a minimum requirement of the governing body of the organisation and the donors. People with physical disabilities and leprosy were the primary target groups of PNL with major priority of rehabilitating them physically, socially and emotionally. PNL has been providing a home visit service and weekly counselling service to people with disabilities. The family members of the primary target groups were the secondary target group. Especially the family members of people with disabilities were included in the capacity building programme such as vocational skills development, income generation, advocacy programme, etc. They are also included in advocating for the social life of the disabled people.
PNL has recently started work with change in its strategic plan. It is extending its work in the community development amongst people particularly marginalized with any cause that has put them under line of poverty. Beside the target area of three working districts, PNL is experiencing joys of serving people with disabilities and affected by leprosy from elsewhere but this will be consisted to one district where the number of disability and leprosy contact is high with PNL and is more accessible in the performance of the work ie in Rupandehi district. PNL has planned and selected some areas of Rupandehi district where there is need of community development, awareness and advocacy.
PNL is a local nonprofit organization established in 2056 which is located in Butwal-9, Rupandehi. It main purpose are Rehabilitation Program for people with physical disability, Health care and Rehabilitation program for leprosy affected people and Empowerment for Transformation of Marginalized Community.
